What’s PLOGGI?

PLOGGI, Pine Lake Organic Gardening and Gardeners’ Initiative, is currently composed of a growing group of folks in Pine Lake who are interested in community-supported agriculture.  This means that we are currently growing organic vegetables on a small piece of city-owned property and are learning about propagating organic, non-genetically-engineered (non-GMO) seed for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of food.

Welcome! To PLOGGI!

Welcome! To PLOGGI!

We would like to help Pine Lake to be a city interested in good health, sustainability, and “green” education! We are here to help each other learn about growing organic food, providing healthy plants for our community members to grow at home, and healthy vegetables for individuals who are sick, needy, or just plain like to eat healthy.

We currently have framed 6×10 plots for individuals and families on a small piece of city-owned property here in Pine Lake. We have a community plot on which we are growing food and flowers to sell at Pine Lake events and to give to sick individuals or needy families in our community.

In past seasons we have given away plants and vegetables at city gatherings and hope to one day produce enough to sell on a small scale, perhaps at a future “Pine Lake Open-Air Organic Market”, along with other organic farmers in our area!   We will need more growing space to accomplish this, and we hope that we can increase citizen involvement so that this can happen. We would like to have visiting teachers come to Pine Lake to teach our community members about sustainable agriculture.

And we would like our PLOGGI members to train our own community members about gardening so that they can in turn teach others! We would like to educate our children about growing food, too!  Educating our own children and visiting children from other communities is another of our goals, through our own Pine Lake Children’s camp and other organized outdoor field trips.  ”yay!

We have planning meetings prior to spring and when needed.  We also have organized work days throughout the growing season to accomplish the health and growth of our gardens. If you’d like to become a supporting member of PLOGGI, or just learn more, please contact us at ploggimail@gmail.com.
